An Analysis of the Idea of Benevolence Reflected in The Root of Withered Grass

华裔日本作家陈舜臣作品《枯草之根》中的"仁"偏重于"爱人"之"仁"。无论是受害者还是加害者,都首先将其视作"人",其次辅以"恕",从而构成了"爱人"之"仁"的较完整内容。另外,在道德与法律上,陈舜臣似乎更倾向于以道德的方式,即儒家思想中的"仁"来解决人际争端。由于陈舜臣将儒家"仁"思想有意识的融入作品中,从而使得文中人物在"中国式道德观"框架下交往,凸显出浓郁的儒学气息,构成了与其他日本推理小说不同的韵味。

Known for its strong China's Mainland style, reflection of Chinese morality and exotic taste, The Root of Withered Grass, the first novel of Chen Shunchen, a famous Chinese Japanese author, won the Edogawa Rampo Award in 1961. It paved the way for Chen＇s writing career in Japan. Considering the majority of Chen＇s works have Chinese background or are closely related with Chinese people, many scholars tended to study their contained Chinese images and ethnic perceptions. As a contrast, few attentions were given to analyze Confucianism and the idea of benevolence in Chen＇s works. This essay will study The Root of Withered Grass by analyzing its text in the hope of giving a detailed display of the idea of benevolence in this book, so as to fill the missing piece.
