An Exegesis of the Setting-up of Yu-yan County during the Chosun Dynasty

15世纪上半叶,朝鲜王朝在鸭绿江南岸进行的＂四郡＂设置中,作为在＂四郡＂之地深入开拓＂桥头堡＂的闾延郡被最先设置。该郡自1416年被从甲山辖域中分离出来,独立为治,才开始了其设置历程。之后迫于迁居近旁的建州女真的边防压力,其虽被进行了一定的巩固建设,但不久又在朝鲜君臣的长期疏忽下而隐患重重。直到1432年,在遭到女真的大举＂报复＂战争之后,伴随着朝鲜王朝全面加强平安道边防建设的趋势,其才进入快速调整设置的时期,并最终于1435年完成设置。显然,在整个设置过程中,其行政变化经历并不似其诱因那样,表现得更为复杂与突出。而这种诱因中起到关键作用的成分要素,正是作为外力的女真因素。

In the first half of the fifteenth century,the Chosun Dynasty carried out a systematic building of ＂six towns＂ on the south bank of the Tumen River,as well as a setting-up of ＂four counties＂ on the south bank of the Yalu River.The first of all these four counties to be set up was the Yu-yan County,which was regarded as the forefront of the four counties.In 1416,the Yu-yan County was separated from the Jiashan Jurisdiction and became an independent county,thus starting its process of setting-up.In 1424,under the pressure of border security by the Jianzhou Nüzhen Group that migrated to its neighbouring region,the Yu-yan County carried out a successive round of consolidation constructions,which later became precarious engineering projects due to long-term negligence and delinquency on the part of the royal court and public officials.It was not until1432 when the Yu-yan County was seriously under attack by the revengeful Nüzhen Group that it opened up a new page of rapid adjustment in its setting-up process,where the Chosun Dynasty carried out an all-encompassing project of strengthening homeland security along the borders.It was not until 1435 that the whole setting-up process was completed.Obviously,the Yu-yan County throughout the whole process of setting-up,administrative changes were more complex and pronounced than its cause,which contained the key element of the Nüzhen Group as the external factor.
