Tragic Beauty of “the Little Man” :Investigation on Chen Shouzhu's Drama Works on the War of Resistance

作为中国现代戏剧史上杰出的理论家之一,学界对陈瘦竹的关注更多的是在他的戏剧理论层面,而对其戏剧作品进行学术观照的研究迄今少有提及。其实抗战期间陈瘦竹曾尝试过戏剧创作,独幕剧《复仇》与三幕抗战剧《醒来吧,农人!》就是他戏剧创作实践的成果。在陈瘦竹的剧作中,他始终坚持对悲剧美的崇尚和对人道精神的肯定,对抗战宣传、反映社会生活与指导舞台实践具有现实的指导作用,同时也体现出他力求借助戏剧来唤醒广大底层民众的抗日救亡的强烈意识。

Chen Shouzhu is considered to be one of the outstanding theorists in the field of Chinese modern drama. Academic circles attach more importance to Chen Shouzhu ’ s drama theory, little attention to academic value. Dur-ing the War of Resistance , he created the one-act play Revenge and the three-act play Wake up , the Farmer! In the dramas , Chen Shouzhu always adheres to the affirmation of tragic beauty and the humanitarian spirit, during which broadcasts the War of Resistance, reflects social life and guides stage practice. At the same time, he tries to use drama to wake up the lower classes ’ consciousness of anti-Japanese national salvation movement.
