An Investigation of Anti-Gambling Efforts in Rural Areas in Guangdong in the Modern Times

近代时期,广东乡村赌博泛滥。其严重败坏社会风气,扰乱社会秩序,并诱发多种犯罪活动,成为广东乡村社会的一大社会问题。乡村社会通过设立乡规民约、家训族规、民间俚语等多形式对赌博进行劝阻和制裁,取得了一定的禁赌成效。

In modern times,gambling was rampant in Guangdong’s rural areas.It seriously corrupted the social atmosphere,disturbed social order,induced a variety of criminal activities,and became a major social problem in the rural society of Guangdong.Rural communities discouraged and sanctioned gambling by establishing village regulations and rules,implementing clan instructions and spreading folk proverbs and achieved a certain degree of success.
