Comment on the “school of ghosts”

台湾的"鬼派"小说,约盛行于1962-1971年间,是台湾武侠小说"四大流派"之一。"鬼派"之说,由叶洪生首先提出,并予之较低的评价,其影响极大,故论者向来皆持贬抑之心看待"鬼派"。实则,"鬼派"虽取法还珠楼主中的"邪魔外道"之恐怖、血腥,但并非叶洪生所谓之始于诸葛青云的《夺魂旗》。从创作时间来看,田歌乃是最早的"鬼派"创始者,陈青云继之,在当时与武侠漫画共生下,带动一时风潮。从其成就而言,陈青云则允称为"鬼派大当家"。"鬼派"从用字上即可看出其"非鬼即魔"的特色,其"恨意"充盈,喜用阴森鬼魅之场景、血腥残酷之场面营造气氛,而以"隐情""偏激的人物性格""迅急快速"的节奏,带动故事发展,以曲折离奇取胜。因而较乏人性深刻的摹写。"鬼派"曾吸引过相当多的读者,而以阴森恐怖的气氛创作小说,未尝不能发展成一别具特色的武侠体式,"鬼派"小说也就有其存在的意义与价值。

Taiwan＇s ＂school of ghosts＂ dealing with martial arts,flourishing in the period from 1962 to1971,is one of the ＂four great popular schools＂ of Taiwan＇s martial arts novels. The so-called ＂school of ghosts＂,first put forth by Ye Hongsheng,received unfavorable comments but had great influence;therefore,it has always been depreciated by the critics. Actually,though imitating the horror and bloodiness in the ＂heresy of demons and heritics＂from the web host of Huanzhu,the＂school of ghosts＂did not start with what was first described in Zhuge Qingyun＇s Soul-Snatching Flag mentioned by Ye Hongsheng. In speaking of the time of creation,Tian Ge was the earliest creator of the＂school of ghosts＂,followed by Chen Qingyun; however,when co-existing with martial arts cartoons,the school brought along a temporary fashion. In speaking of achievements,Chen Qingyun was fairly called＂the leading master of the school＂. In terms of the use of words,the school＇s feature of having either ghosts or demons＂can be perceived ＂; the novels,abundant in ＂hatred ＂,prefer to take advantage of the ghastly and sepulchral scenes and bloody and cruel places to create the atmosphere,promote the development of the story with＂concealed emotions＂,the ＂extreme nature of the characters＂and the＂sudden and swift＂rhythm,and win popularity by twists and turns and absurdity,but lack detailed descriptions of human nature. However,the ＂school of ghosts ＂ has once attracted quite a lot of readers,and the creation of novels with the air of ghastliness and horror is not impossible to develop into a unique martial arts style. Therefore,the existence of the ＂school of ghosts＂novels must have their own significance and value.
