The distal wedge procedure is an approach of periodontal flap surgery,mainly used to eliminate periodontal pockets on the distal surface of terminal molars. It is also used to eliminate deep periodontal pockets in edentulous areas.This procedure is widely used for the advantages on providing access for osseous defect in the maxillary tuberosity and the mandibular retromolar pad which has special tissue type and anatomical structure.This paper will discuss the techniques and clinical application of the distal wedge procedure.
