This paper reviews Fumihiko Takayama＇s Electra： Life of Kengi Nakagami（2007）, a 21st-century biography of the Japanese writer, analyzing its naming of the biographical subject, its rhetorical narrative method, and its function as literary criticism, among other concerns. In light of the life and career of Kengi Nakagami as a literary author, the paper also examines the significance of this kind of monogatari biography writing in terms of updating literary history.
