The New Perspective of Eagleton's Cultural Studies: On Reason and Faith

本世纪初以来,伊格尔顿针对后现代主义文化摒弃信仰的思潮,从新的视角阐释了他的文化理论。他坚持马克思主义文化批判的立场,探究当代世界矛盾的历史根源,批判西方自由理性思想的本质。他指出以自由理性为核心的、丧失信仰的非理性行为是对他国信仰和文化的践踏,也导致了极端宗教信仰和西方社会之间的冲突与对抗。他呼吁树立理性的信仰观以解决当今社会问题与矛盾。

Since the beginning of 21st century, Eagleton has developed his cultural theory from a new perspective to attack the anti-faith inclination of postmodernism. As a Marxist cultural critic, he explores the historical causes of present global contradiction, criticizes the nature of Western ideas of freedom and reason. He points out that irrational acts based on freedom and reason, but without faith, destroy faith and culture of other nations, leading to conflicts and confrontations between religious extremists and Western society. He strongly suggests that the right way to solve current social problems is to establish faith with reason.
