在年轻人的生活中,不平等和社会阶级仍然是一个现实问题,社会阶级仍然是了解年轻人生活的关键因素,因而青年亚文化的风格和特性也与社会阶级有着紧密的联系,亚文化背景在很大程度上就是一种阶级身份的表现。在对爱丁堡和纽卡斯尔两地青年的采访中可以发现：每个亚文化群体中的青年都有着相似的阶级地位,他们的社会经济地位直接影响和限制了他们对亚文化群体的选择,亚文化群体中青年身份的界定不是取决于他们自由浮动的生活方式,而是在很大程度上取决于他们所处的社会阶级。

In the life of young people, inequality and the social class are still real issues, and the social class is still a key factor in understanding the life of young people, so that young people＇s subcultural styles and identi- ties are closely boundup with social class, it can be said that subcultural affil- iation is in large part an expression of class identity. Through interviews with young people in Edinburgh and Newcastle, we found that young people within each subculture group tend to have similar class status, and their socio-eco-nomic positions directly that rather than being a affect and limit their free-floating lifestyle subculture choice, so we can say choic ship of subcultural groupings is largely determined e, young people＇s member- by social class.
