This article discusses the community development of "urban villages"in the context of urbanization in contemporary China, specifically regarding the possibility of development-from-inside-out. This study uses oral history as its methodology to investigate the reconstruction processes of a natural village in an "urban village"community, trying to identify the dynamics and mechanisms of its asset building. It aims to provide insights to social workers to take more effective actions in the field of"urban village"community development. The study shows that natural villages in"urban village"communities do have the will and strength to generate local development internally. However, the will and strength are largely shaped by the theoretical orientations of the community actors. The"homeland asset"of the community could be revived and mobilized only when actors pays attention to the "bright side"and inner power of the community and emphasizes its "local dimensions. "In this way, maximized regeneration and development could be brought about with minimized input of external resources. Therefore, social workers who participating community development of "urban villages"should develop their community actions on the basis of "local dimention",and promote the multi relationships in or out of the community to be connected and intergrated. Only when we construct a solidary community, the internal dynamic of community development could be maintained.
