“小康社会”英译研究

The Study of English Translation of “xiaokang society”

本文就目前常用的"小康社会"两种译法,即"well off society"与"moderately prosperous society"进行分析对比研究,通过收集中外主流媒体对其相关报道,并统计频率,分析两种译法的发展变化趋势,并且通过分析词汇的原始意义,从而总结出使用这两种译法所产生的不同效果及其各自的优势。最后指出在翻译此类中国特色政治词汇应当遵循的原则。

Through contrasting two different translations of＂xiaokang society＂（＂well-off society＂and＂moderately prosperous society＂）, this paper collects the frequency of the two phrases from Chinese and foreign mainstream media to analyze the trends and changes of the two translations. By analyzing the original meaning of these two phrases, this paper sums up the different effects and their respective advantages gained by these two different translations. Finally, it points out some principles that should be applied when translating such terms with Chinese characteristics.
