近代中国废娼运动的兴起，在很大程度上受到在沪基督教团体推动的上海废娼运动的影响。研究基督教团体对于中国废娼运动的影响，不但可以帮助我们更好地了解在华基督教团体的活动，从中管窥在华西人的诸多面相，更可以帮助我们回答一个极其重要的历史母题——西方世界是如何影响中国现代化进程的。1919年，工部局模棱两可的态度并未打消基督教热心人士的热情，他们在道德促进会的基础上成立了规模更大的道德幸福会，经过不懈努力，迫使工部局颁布法令，开始对公共租界内的娼妓进行登记，租界里的废娼运动正式拉开帷幕。同一时期，废娼思想在当时上海的中国人群体中也开始酝酿、发生，最终演变成一场席卷全国的废娼运动。

The anti-prostitution campaign,which had an important influence min the process of China’s modernization,was an important social movement during the period of the Republic of China. This article tries to trace the history of the rise of the Anti - Prostitution campaign and,on the basis of previous studies,clarify the preparation of the Anti- Prostitution campaign initiated by the Christian community in 1916 - 1920. According to those facts,we would like to draw a historical picture about how did the Christian community influent the Chinese local Anti - Prostitution campaign from the perspective of the experience and context. This article would also like to discuss the changes and development of the western and Christian Anti - Prostitution ideology after absorbing by Chinese society. In this way,we will find out the motivation and limitation of the thought and behavior from the west in the historical process of China’s modernization and help us better grasp the pattern of China’s modern social development.
