At present, the human development in our country has entered the stage of human dependence on things. One obvious manifestation is the advent of the era of mass consumption. In the stage of human dependence on things, people's need for a better life is the dominant need, featured by the need for enjoyment and development. Meanwhile, the imbalance of survival and ownership can lead to imbalance in the relationship between man and nature, man and society, and man and self. It can also lead to inadequate performance of man's subjectivity in terms of scope and extent. This, in turn, limits the satisfaction of people's needs. Thus, the principal contradiction of human development in the new era is formed. There are both co-relation and difference between the principal contradiction in the new era and that in the past. We should resolve the principal contradiction, and promote the overall and free development of people by promoting innovative thinking, developing the productive forces, ruling our country by law in an all-round way, realizing socialist core values, and promoting the coordinated development of cultural undertakings and cultural industries.
