In 1874,under the pretext of the Ryukyu drift-boat incident,Japan began to annex the Chinese subordinate state Ryukyu and use this as an excuse to invade China's Taiwan.The Qing government took prompt action after learning of it,which made the incident better handled.The Japanese invasion of Taiwan had a profound impact on China,which caused a fierce debate on coastal defense within the Qing government,which also laid the foundation for the establishment of the Chinese navy.
