This paper takes the analysis of the image of Buddha,a rare figure in English literature,as the breakthrough point,analyzes Marlow’s three fingerprints which are closely related to the inner tolerance of Buddha,and discusses three modern intolerance in the novel Heart of Darkness.With the narrator Marlow’s description of the memories of the people and ship sailing into Africa,the paper reveals the theme that the process of human civilization should take the tolerance as its principle,and expounds that the modern thought of＂intolerance＂in the Heart of Darkness originates from fear.
