Unfinished Business: Modern Intellectuals and Chinese Enlightenment

18世纪有关启蒙与知识分子的现代性话语一经建构,便在数百年间经历了流变、分化、消解与重释的变迁,中国近代以来知识分子的启蒙之路亦是如此。以启蒙与知识分子两大学理的联系回溯中国知识分子启蒙之路的起源、酝酿、发生及论争,不难发现二者于不同历史语境下或共谋或对峙的富有张力的局面。重回历史、反思现世再观至未来,中国现代知识分子不断诉诸五四的深层原因便在于对长存的启蒙精神的不懈求索。

Since the 18th century,the modern discourse of enlightenment and intellectualism has been constructed. It experienced the process of theology,differentiation,digestion and reinterpretation among the hundreds of years,the road of Chinese enlightenment is similar to the situation. According to the relation between modern intellectuals and Chinese enlightenment,we will find that there are full of tension in different historical context. By backing to history,reflecting the reality of the future and then expecting to the future,the Chinese modern intellectuals constantly resorted to the deep reasons of the May 4th Movement was to endure the enlightening spirit of unremitting explorations.
