海洋文学是人类通过海洋认识自身世界的一个窗口,作为欧美海洋文学的两部经典之作,《海上劳工》与《老人与海》有着众多相似之处。海洋意象不仅是作家灵感的源泉,更在小说中起着推动故事情节发展、烘托人物性格的作用。两部作品中的海洋意象虽不尽相同,但都具有象征性,以不同的角度反映着人类社会的现实。

Maritime literature is a window through which humanity could understand its own world. As classic works on maritime literature in the west,The Toilers of Sea and The Old Man and The Sea share many similarities. Image of the sea is not only the source of writer＇s inspiration,but also plays an important role in promoting the development of the story and in depicting the hero＇s character in the novel. Although the images of the sea in the two works are not exactly the same,they are symbolic and reflect human society in different perspectives.
