Objective The effect of body mass index(BMI)on cerebral infarction was discussed. Methods In 2006--2007,101 510 participants took part in the health physical examination of the Kailuan Group, excluding the loss of BMI(n=1 470),cerebral infarction(n=2 171),malignant tumor(n=351)and finally 97 518 were included in the statistical analysis.According to BMI,the group was divided into three groups:the normal weight:BMI24 kg/m^2;overweight:BMI 24-27.9 kg/m^2;obesity:BMI≥28 kg/m^2.The risk ratio of BMI to cerebral infarction was analyzed using the COX proportional hazards model. Results The incidence of cerebral infarction increased with the increase of BMI,the result was 2.0%,3.1%,3.5%(P〈0.05),respectively.The Cox proportional risk model analysis showed that compared with the normal weight group, the overweight and obesity groups were more likely to have a cerebral infarction, and the HR were 41% and 48% respectively(P〈0.05).Conclusion BMI is an independent risk factor for cerebral infarction.
