别生经是在摘抄佛经的基础上加入序分和流通分,并以"佛说某某经"为题的一种特殊的佛经文献。别生经兴起于南北朝,在隋代和唐初发展兴盛,唐代中期以后逐渐消亡。由于其是从佛经中摘抄出来的,不易得到入藏机会,后世流传较少,一直没有得到研究者应有的重视。考察别生经在历史上的存在情况,对于认识佛经文献的源流关系以及印度佛经的中土化演进等具有重要的参考价值。

Bie Sheng Sutra is a special circulated Buddhist which progress in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and flourish during Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty, but gradually die out after the mid-Tang Dynasty. The existence of Bie Sheng Sutra in history has important reference value particularly for understanding the relationship between the origins of Middle-earth as well as the evolution of India Buddhist.
