Subject Indexing of Academic Monographs: From the Perspective of Editors' Indexing Practice

文章结合索引编制实践探讨了学术著作主题索引的编制,包括索引词的选取、主副标目的安排、参照系统的建构、索引编制过程中与作者及排版员的沟通,索引页码抽取后的调整和校对等,对笔者所编制的部分索引进行评析,并对提高专著索引质量进行一些思考。

This research discusses the making of subject index appended to the academic monograph from the practical perspective. Editors＇ indexing practices normally include building of the cross-references. Communication with term selection, arrangement of index entries and its sub-entries, authors and typesetters and proof reading during the indexing process are also discussed. The research concludes with some reflections on the quality improvement of book indexing
