《安得长者言》是陈继儒的一部具有劝喻训导性质的家训著作,是有关日常道德修养、行为规范和修身处世的一篇家训,劝诫人们要行善积德、惜福报恩、修德向贤、戒奢崇俭、中庸处世、宽容待人和慎独去欲。此外,《安得长者言》是针对晚明种种世风而作出的训喻劝诫,具有社会教化的性质。其格言具有一定的历史价值,在晚明清初有巨大的影响。《安得长者言》的伦理思想也明显标注着时代和阶级的印记,或多或少存在一些时代局限的色调。

Remarks of the Elders, a book written by CHEN Jiru, is about family instructions with disciplining and educational property, emphasizing the daily family morality, behavior norm and self-cultivation. It exhorts people to do good deeds, cherish rewards, retreat to morals, refrain from luxury and uphold thrifty, deal with affairs in the golden mean and value doctrine, tolerance and prudence. In addition, aimed at the general mood of the late Ming Dynasty, it makes the crit- icism with the intention of offering social education, so many mottos in the book are of certain historical value. Yet, the ethical thoughts in the book are also clearly marked with the imprint of the times and the class, and there are more or less shades of the limitations of the times.
