Characteristics and Trends of Tourism Research in China Based on Tourism Tribune Published for 30 Years

作为旅游学科标志性期刊,《旅游学刊》能大致反映中国旅游研究的基本情况。文章从1986—1995年、1996—2005年和2006—2016年3个阶段,分析《旅游学刊》创刊30年来的总体特征、研究领域特点、演变趋势、研究展望等方面。研究发现,中国旅游研究尚未形成强大的核心作者群,研究领域主要集中在9个方面,且呈现"五降四升"的演变趋势,研究方法以定性分析为主,注重定性和定量相结合。树立核心作者群、关注热点趋精细化和前瞻化、研究领域趋引领化和理论化、研究方法趋定性和定量唇齿相依化等4方面成为《旅游学刊》的主要展望。

As a symbolic journal in tourism field, Tourism Tribune reflects the basic situation of tourism research in China to a certain extent. From three stages of 1986-1995, 1996-2005 and 2006-2016, this paper analyzed the general characteristics, characteristic of specific research areas, research trends and prospects of Tourism Tribune. This study found that the time period of 1996 to 2005 is a rapid development stage,when papers with high citation of Tourism Tribune were mainly published. The amount of the papers at this stage accounted for 73.17% of the total. However, the time period of 2006 to 2016 is a stable development stage, with the high download literature accounting for 75.12% of the total published papers. Due to the impact of economic development and the enrichment of tourism resources, the first authors of Tourism Tribune mainly came from six provinces, which are Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shaanxi and Zhejiang（more than 150 papers in each province）. The number of papers published by the core author group accounted for 21.37% of the total, indicating that Tourism Tribune has not yet formed a strong core group of authors. In addition, the studies of Tourism Tribune mainly focused on 9 fields, which were theory and method, tourism management, development and evaluation of tourism resource, tourism education and training, hospitality, tourism destination, literature review, tourism market, and tourists. It shows that the research fields had an evolution trend of＂five downs, four ups＂. The proportion of studies shows a downward trend in such fields such as the development and evaluation of tourism resource, hospitality,tourism education and training, tourism management and tourism market. The proportion of studies is on the rise in the fields of theory and method, tourist destination, literature review, and tourists. Thirdly, Tourism Tribune mainly used the qualitative research method, accounting for 63.19% of the total. Meanwhile,quantitative research methods accounted for 36.81%. However, from the development process, qualitative research methods were mainly applied in the first and second stages. The quantitative research methods were mainly used in the third stage and became the mainstream, such as the combination of mathematical statistics, structural models and mathematical statistics. Lastly, to establish the core author groups, to focus on diversified and forward-looking hot topic, to lead the trend and theoretic research fields, and to combine qualitative and quantitative methods are the 4 main prospects of Tourism Tribune. There are fourfold meaning for this. The first is that there needs more influential scholars to publish their papers on Tourism Tribune, especially as the first author, thus to encourage the new ideas of tourism academic, to promote the development of tourism study, as well as to form an influential and leading core author group. The second is to keep focusing on hot topics based on the characteristics of the era, national policy, market demands, and new trends of tourism industry, in order to encourage specified and forward-looking studies on hot topics.The third one is that Tourism Tribune needs to pay attention to national policy and become a symbolic academic journal in tourism study field. It also needs to care about the direction of theoretical development,and become a field for tourism theories study and a platform for the discussions on different point of views.The last one is to promote the combination of qualitative and quantitative research.
