On the Rhythm of Stephen Owen's English Translation of Du Fu's Poems

宇文所安翻译的《杜甫诗》是杜诗英译的首个全译本,本文主要聚焦宇文所安对格律的翻译与归化,从《杜甫诗》中呈现杜诗英译的形式入手,从韵律、平仄、对仗三大角度切入,与英语诗歌韵律特点予以参照,并引入洪业、许渊冲等译者的翻译,试图对宇文所安在杜诗格律翻译上的得失予以评价,并对杜诗格律在翻译维度上的变异予以探讨。

Du Fu’s Poems translated by Stephen Owen is the first complete translation into English. This paper focuses on Stephen Owen＇s translation and domestication of rhythm, presenting the form of translation of Du Fu＇s poems from the perspective of rhythm, equality and confrontation, and makes reference to the prosodic characteristics of English poetry. By introducing the translation of Hong Ye, Xu Yuanchong and other translators, this paper attempts to evaluate the gains and losses of Stephen Owen in the translation of Du Fu’s poems rhythm, and probes into the variation of du Shi rhythm in translation dimension.
