The Lexical and Syntactic Features of English Literature Works in Early Modern English

早期现代英语是英国文学史发展的一个转折点,也是英语语言发展的重要时期。这一时期的文学作品在词汇的应用以及语法方面都有着时代特有的印记。通过乔叟及莎士比亚的部分作品,对早期现代英语时期英国文学作品的词汇及其语法特征进行分析,可以看出,这个时期的英国文学作品中,词性转换灵活,句式表达多样,并且外来词及连字符的使用,都使得英语文学作品的表达更形象、更具兼容性。

Early modern English is not only a turning point in the history of English Literature, but also a significant period in the development of English language. During this period, literature works remained certain lexical and syntactic features of the times. By studying some works by Geoffrey Chaucer and William Shakespeare, we analyzed the lexical and syntactic features reflected in literature works in early modern English and made some findings such as flexible word formation, diversified sentence expression, and the application of foreign words as well as hyphen, which made the works more vivid and compatible.
