Acanthotomicus sp. has become a lethal pest of American sweetgum（Liquidambar styraciflua）, causing the death of a large number of trees in Jiangsu and Shanghai. The damage characters, morphological characteristics and living habits of Acanthotomicus sp. are briefly described,and various prevention and control methods are proposed.
