借之“提劲”——漫谈我的“五四”研究

Drawing Strength——A Discussion on My Research on the May 4th Period

没有现实环境的刺激和催化,就没有思考和选题。当代中国社会中,往昔知识分子那种指点江山、关怀世事的情怀在今天的读书人身上消失殆尽,而淑世意识,恐怕是五四一代知识分子身上最显著的特征。对个人而论,探讨＂五四精英的知识分子观＂的意义不只局限于其学术意义,更在于从对五四知识分子的使命感的回溯中汲取力量,借之＂提劲＂,重建知识分子与当代中国的联系。对＂民国时期＂和＂台湾地区＂的五四事件稀见材料加以搜集和整理,加上我们能够看到的中华人民共和国成立后的五四事件叙述,大概就能构成一个＂相对完整＂的五四事件叙述。

There is no thinking and selected topic without the stimulation of current environment. In contemporary China, intellectuals＇ passion for the world and the society has been faded away,but the emotion of saving society was a typical feature of intellectuals in the May 4th period. At the personal level,the discussion on the intellectuals＇ values in the May 4th period not only has academic influences,but also can rebuild the relationship between intellectuals and contemporary China by drawing strength from intellectuals＇ sense of mission in the May 4th period. By collecting and summarizing the rare materials of May 4th Movement in the R epublica Period and Taiwan Region,and reading the description of May 4th Movement after the founding of the People＇ s Republic of China,we can form a＂relatively complete＂description on May 4th Movement.
