Network Embeddedness and Technological Innovation: How Indirect Ties and Diversity of Alliance Types Affect Technological Innovation?

关注战略联盟网络中,间接联盟关系及联盟类型多样性对技术创新数量和质量是否存在差异化影响。以网络理论和技术创新理论为基础,基于USPTO专利数据库、Recap联盟数据库和Compustat上市企业数据库,使用泊松回归对假设进行验证,研究发现:企业间接联系增加仅对创新质量有负向影响;企业联盟类型多样性增加对创新数量和创新质量都具有正向影响。

This study focuses on how indirect alliance partners and diversity of alliance types affect innovation quantity and quality. This study is based on theory of network and technological innovation, and panel data of bio- technology and pharmaceutical industry from 1990 to 2001 based on USPTO patent database, Recap alliance da- tabase and Compustat database. Then this study uses Poisson regression model to test hypotheses. Here are the main conclusions： a, the increase of indirect ties has a negative impact on innovation quality; b,the increase of diversity of alliance types has a positive impact on innovation quantity and quality
