This paper explains the elements of information flow and discusses the relations of them.The control function and the function of communication and connection were discussed.It is believed that the study of information flow should pay attention to its dynamic value and the usefulness.It also discusses the relationship between library and information science and information flow and concludes that the research path of it is all based on information flow.The paper lists three directions of information flow＇s application：think tank,library,big data.It proposes that the products of think tanks reflect the dynamic process of information flow.The library adjusts management and decision-making based on the feedback of information flow.User＇s information requirements were digged according to big data and information flow.In this way,the function of information flow in library and information science was analyzed.
