As a post-9/11 movie,The Reluctant Fundamentalist breaks away from the binary narrative and reverses the alienated image of Muslims. The movie unfolds itself in different space and time which alternates between America and Lahore. Through the flashback of the protagonist's shattered American dreams, the movie highlights America's alienation of the other. In the meantime,by way of the ethical call from the conflicts in the teahouse,it exposes the hegemony of the American government and guides the audience to apprehend the precariousness and grievability of others' life, thus revealing the non-violent ethical theme in the movie narrative.
