English Translation of Hanshan Poems from the Perspective of Skopos Theory: Its Reference to the English Translation of Contemporary Chinese Literature

翻译目的论(Skopos theory)是由德国翻译理论家赖斯(Reiss)和汉斯·弗美尔(Hans L Vermeer)发展起来的翻译理论,它是功能翻译理论的核心内容。由加里·斯奈德译注的寒山诗在西方学界和民间受到了极大推崇,对中国文学在国外的传播起到了重要作用。文章采取个案分析的方式,以目的论为核心概念,探讨斯奈德对寒山诗的翻译及其对当代中国文学英译的借鉴作用。

Skopos theory is a translation theory developed by German translation theorist Reiss and Hans Vermeer, which is the core of functional translation theory. Hanshan poems translated by Gary Snyder have been greatly admired in the western academic circles and the folk, and have played an important role in the spread of Chinese literature abroad. This paper, taking the skopos theory as the core concept, discusses the translation of Gary Snyder＇s poems and its reference to the translation of contemporary Chinese literature.
