"Returning Straw to the Field" Versus "Retaining Straw in the Field":the Analysis of Literal and Technical Meanings and Translation of a Chinese Term

随着我国对外科学技术交流的日趋活跃,中文论文附英文摘要已趋于常态,本刊所登论文也不例外,这无疑有助于本刊的对外交流,提升作者成果的国际影响力。但不少英文摘要尚存在明显的中式英语问题,部分术语的英译不够准确地道,这会使国外读者不解其意,从而严重影响对外科技交流与合作的成效。基于此,本刊新设农科文苑栏目,编发系列文章剖析英文摘要中存在问题并提出改进意见,以飨作者与读者。

This study aimed at determining the effect of fully returning rice straw to the field on the grain yield of rice stubble wheat. A field trial was conducted after rice harvest, using the wheat variety ＂Yanmei 1＂ as the tested material. The trial consisted of two treatments： fully returning rice straw to the field, and burning the same amount of rice straw in the field （the control）. Each treatment comprised three replicates. In the treatment of returning the straw, all rice straw and stubbles remaining in the field were fully returned to the field before wheat was sown. As a result, fully returningstraw to the field significantly increased the grain yield of wheat by 10.50% compared with the control. In conclusion, fully returning rice straw to the field is not only environmentally friendly but also effective in improving the grain yield of rice stubble wheat.
