18世纪是一个风云突变的时代。大批西方传教士随着西力东侵的不断扩张和海外贸易的逐步推进,不远万里来到中国传教。他们在学习汉语的过程中被中国文化的魅力吸引,开始翻译和传播一些文化名作,儒家思想开始传播到欧洲,中国人的精神世界开始展现在欧洲人面前,开启了中国文化名作海外传播的序幕。同时他们自身亦发生了蜕变,由传教士变成中西文化交流使者,单纯的教义输出转变为两种文明的相互交融,更在客观上促进中国文化的海外传播和中西方文化交流。
