五行思想肇自先秦,然则五行相生说和五行相胜说并行,两者处于同一地位。因于时代需要出现不同的取舍倾向,或者采取相胜说、或者相生说。司马迁五行思想含有二重性,出于现实需要突出五行相胜说,但是又把五行相生说放在特殊位置。其五行思想较董仲舒前进一步,又对后来的五行思想及古史构建产生了重大影响。学界对司马迁五行二重性少有论及,对其五行思想二重性探索是必要的,它对于司马迁史观及古史建构的认识有相当重要的作用。

The thought of the five elements originated and restriction among from the pre-Qin Dynasty,but the five elements are mutually paralleled. Because of the needs of the times,there are different trade-offs. Sima Qian＇s thought about the five elements contains duality. Out of the need of reality,the five elements should be highlighted,but the five elements should be placed in a special position. The thought of＂five element＂is one step ahead of Dong Zhongshu,and it also has a great influence on the later five-element thoughts and the construction of the ancient history. The academic circles have discussed the duality of the five elements of Sima Qian,and it is necessary to explore the duality of the thought of the five elements. It plays an important role in the understanding of Sima Qian＇s view of history and the construction of the ancient history.
