《触摸历史与进入五四》,是近年来新文化史渐为走俏背景下"以小见大"重构五四新文化形象的一次尝试。该书"洞见"迭出,首先,作者运用跨学科的研究方法,展现了"五四运动"复杂性及偶然性;其次,通过人的主体性的凸显,回溯新文化运动历史有活力的有趣的一面;同时,透过对当事人的观念心态的远焦近距描摹,建构饱满丰富的五四新文化运动形象。但该书因立意公众史学传播,历史鲜活有趣之余难免缺乏一定的历史严谨性。

The book ＂Touches of History and An Entry into ‘May Fourth＇China＂is an attempt to reconstruct and represent ＂May Fourth ＂Movement through exquisite descriptions in the trend of New Cultural History. It provids some new insights. Firstly it depicts the complexity and occasionality of ＂May Fourth＂Movement through interdisciplinary view; secondly the vital and interesting part of the ＂May Fourth＂Movement has been backtracked through the focus on the subjectivity of human being expressed by mindset description; moreover,a full and rich description of ＂May Fourth＂Movement is constructed through the parties＇ conception and mentality. However,within the vivid description,some preciseness for historical research is lacking intending for a wider public communication.
