Metaphor Interpretation and Culture Cognition:A Case Study of Cross-cultural Interpretations of Body Politic

以政体解读为例,采取实证研究方法探讨隐喻解读与文化认知之间的关系。调查结果显示,隐喻解释呈现系统性分布模式,这与文化特定传统有关。隐喻概念映射既不具有自动性,也不具有普遍性,而是变化不定,文化各异。传统的隐喻接受观(即隐喻接受者对隐喻所包含的意识形态思想会自动地加以理解和接受)遭到质疑。

This paper, from an empirical approach, attempts to probe into the relationship between metaphor interpretation and cultural cognition based on the interpretations of body politic by the subjects from different cultural backgrounds. The results indicate that some systematic distribution patterns can be linked to culture-specific traditions. Conceptual mappings in understanding metaphors are neither automatic nor universal but variable and culture-specific. These findings put the traditional view of metaphor recipients as understanding and accepting automatically the ideological bias of any metaphors into question.
