Matsumoto’s novel Waiting for Me a Year and a Half reveals the “evilness” and “ugliness” hidden in the life of “goodness” and “beauty” with a murder case. The “evil” and the “good” are fully explored with Sumurako, who is as beautiful as Iki and attempts to possess beauty. This can be attributed to the dual nature of the Japanese national psychology of both dependence and inversion as child psychology, which is reflected in aesthetics as natural and persistent. This inevitably brings about a dual tragedy of morality and emotion. This kind of tragedy runs through a person’ s life experience. It is infinite, extreme and endless, which is the internal structure of traditional Japanese aesthetics.
