“魁脍”义辨

A Textual Research on “Kuikuai”

《玄应音义》是一部汇释群经的专书辞典,具有重要的文字学、音韵学、训诂学价值。立足于佛经原文,并结合《玄应音义》《慧琳音义》《希麟音义》《新集藏经音义随函录》等佛经音义书,以及传世字书,认为该书"未详所出立名"之"魁脍",并非"屠割牲肉之人""屠杀凶恶之师"等义,当义为"主煞人者"(即刽子手)。史实证明,古印度充当"魁脍"这一职务者为种姓之外的贱民阶层旃陀罗。

Based on the text of the Buddhist scriptures,and combining with a series of dictionaries and books,such as Xuan Ying Yin Yi,Hui Lin Yin Yi,Xi Lin Yin Yi,Ke Hong Yin Yi,etc.,it is safe to say that the word＂Kuikuai＂does not means＂the butcher who cuts the meat＂or＂the man kills the murder of the evil man＂,but the executioner.Historical facts prove that ancient India Candalap layed the role of＂Kuikuai＂as a＂untouchable class＂outside the caste.
