Most prominent members of the first generation of Chinese architects, such as Fan Wenzhao, Yang Tingbao, Liang Sicheng, Tung chuin, and Chen Chih, received their education at the School of Fine Arts at University of Pennsylvania. After returning to China, they actively participated in the fields including architectural design, architectural research, architectural education, architectural management ~ind others： They are the integral part of the modern architectural movement in China and had a profound impact on the foundation and development of modern Chinese architecture.
