Objective:To observe the effects of kinesio taping combined with shoulder strengthening training on shoulder pain in hemiplegic patients with stroke during spasm period. Methods:Seventy patients with stroke hemiplegic shoulder pain during spasm period were randomly divided into observation group(n=35)and control group(n=35).Two groups were given conventional treatment, and observation group received treatment of kinesio taping additionally.Visual analogue scale(VAS)for the hemiplegic shoulder pain,Fugl-Meyer motor assessment(FMA)for the motor function of upper limb and modified Barthel index(MBI)for activities of daily living(ADL)were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the 4 th week of treatment course respectively. Results:The scores of VAS significantly decreased after treatment as compared with pre-treatment in both groups(P〈0.01),and those in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P〈0.01).The scores of FMA and MBI significantly increased after treatment as compared with pre-treatment in both groups(P〈0.01),and those in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P〈0.05).Conclusion:Kinesio taping combined with shoulder strengthening training for the treatment of stroke patients following hemiplegia during spasm period can relieve the shoulder pain, and improve the function of upper limb and ADL.
