Recent interest in moral constructivism has led to the adoption of a view that the perspective from which moral facts emerge is that of the deliberator. This is seen as a semi-historical development-the move from philosophers David Hume and Adam Adam Smith, to that of Kant. The Key to understanding this move is under-standing the a corrective mechanism" employed by sentimentalists-such as Hume and Adam Smith-in their development of moral theory. In this paper I will explore the Adam Smithian alternative, contrasting it to the Humean.
