摘要
语言焦虑对于交际者的语言表达效果有相当大的影响。但现阶段的研究基本上集中于课堂背景下教师如何降低学生的学习焦虑,很少关注学生在目标语言环境中,在没有教师干预的课堂之外,如何主动减少自己语言焦虑的情况。在曼彻斯特大学研修期间,本文作者对在校学习的五名中国留学生进行了问卷调查,评估他们进入英国时的焦虑,询问这种焦虑是否随着时间的推移而改变,以及他们是否采用了一些策略来缓解说英语的焦虑。调查发现,建立友谊有助于降低目标语言学习者课堂之外的语言焦虑,因为当朋友之间进行交际的时候,负面评价得以缩小,自信心得以提高。
Language anxiety has a significant impact on communicator’ s language performance (Horwitz, 1991). However, themajority of the studies today are classroom-based and focused on teachers’role in lowering students’anxiety, very little attentionhas been paid to how students reduce their language anxiety outside of the classroom ina target language environment withoutteachers’intervention. The paper looks at a group of five Chinese overseas students of English during the writer’ s research andstudies in Manchester University, accesses their levels of anxiety upon their entering the Great Britain, asks them if their anxietychanges with time passes, and investigates them if they have employed some strategies to alleviate their language anxiety. Thefindings indicate that forming a friendship helps to diminish the stress foreign language students experienced because betweenfriends, the negative comments is reduced and self-confidence increased.
