The world’s wife,written by Carol Ann Duffy,who is a contemporary famous British poet,presents a series of women who are supposed to remain silent.They rely on famous men such as Pygmalion,Aesop,Shakespeare,Faust,Elvis Presley,and even Quasimodo in Hugo’s Notre-Dame de Paris.They are both docile and naughty;both victims and perpetrators.They are not silent in the poem,on the contrary,they have complicated feelings to express by telling their own stories,which overturned people’s prejudice toward history,gender and sexual relations.They represent the postmodern feminism.
