In light of Spivak5 s critique of imperialism, this article focuses on the evolution of the subaltern ima-ges in these three texts: the preferred subaltern beast in Frankenstein, the objectified subaltern Antoinette in Wide Sargasso Sea and the hidden subaltern Bertha Mason in Jane Eyre. These three subaltern characters in different contexts are all restrained under the imperialist narrative. The analysis about the evolution of the subaltern ima-ges can reveal the imperialist ideology.
