黄帝时代政治实体的首领因居处其统治区四方部族的地中而产生政治地理五方观念,是五行产生的思想基础;黄帝出于军、政目的开辟修建政治地理中心交通四方部族的道路而产生政治地理交通五行观念。黄帝继而出于在思想上巩固地中对四方部族统治的合法性,将天道时行比附政治地理交通五行而作时间"五行"历。颛顼出于利用神权手段巩固其统治"四方民"的绝对政治权威的目的,谓只有王权所在的地中即"五"是人王与天帝合一的唯一通道,衍生出政治巫术通天五行思想。进入"轴心时代"的战国时期旧五行观念及五行义基本湮失,适应新政局和新科学的发展转换为五材质及其它"五行"说。

This paper uses multi-disciplinary data and methods to probe into the emergence and development of the five elements. It is believed that the idea of political geography of the leaders of the political entities in the Yellow Emperor＇s time was based on the idea that the leaders of the political entities lived in the land of the four tribes in the area under their rule. Out of military and political purposes, the Yellow Emperor opened up the road to build a political geographical center to communicate with the four tribes. The Yellow Emperor then, out of ideological consolidation of the legitimacy of the rule of the Quartet tribes, compared Tiandao Shixing with the Five Elements of Political, Geographical and Transportation, and made a ＂Five Elements＂ calendar of time. For the purpose of consolidating the absolute political authority of his rule over the ＂Quartet people＂ by means of theocracy, Chiu-hu said that only the place where the monarchy was located, i.e. the ＂Five＂ was the only channel through which the king and the Heaven Emperor were united and derived the thought of political witchcraft connecting the heaven and the five elements. In the Warring States Period, the old five elements concept and the five elements＇ righteousness were basically annihilated in the ＂Axis Age＂. They adapted to the new situation and the development of new science and changed into five materials and other ＂five elements＂ theory.
