Many contradictions exist in books like “Six Codes in Tang Dynasty” and “Shi Tong” on the title of the officials who assisted Editorial Directors to edit history. Taking into consideration the various opinions in “Six Codes in Tang Dynasty”, “Tong Dian”, and “Shi Tong”, and referring to “The Book of Song”, “The Book of Jin” and historical documents in Tang Dynasty, the author thinks that the title of Junior Editorial Director had appeared no later than Early Eastern Jin Dynasty. Since then it had been gradually adopted by historians. Until the Southern Dynasty, Junior Editorial Director became the only title of the officials who worked as assistants of Editorial Directors.
