摘要
采用Spencer-Oatey提出的关系管理理论,对以汉语为母语的英语学习者的小组讨论数据进行分析,总结出小组成员采用了三种表达语言策略和两种约束语言策略。三种表达语言策略分别是关注听话者、夸大和与听话者声称组内成员关系。两种约束语言策略分别是给听话者不实施此行为的选择和减少威胁。数据分析说明,交际双方使用的语言与所采用的礼貌策略之间有着重要的关系,说话者的英语水平和口语表达能力也直接影响到礼貌策略的选择。
Rapport management theory proposed bySpencer-Oatey is employed as a theoretical framework toexamine how Chinese speakers of English manage rapportwhen they are communicating in small group discussion. Itconcludes that group members employ three linguisticstrategies of expressiveness; that is, attending to hearer, exaggeratingand claiming in-group membership with hearer.The two linguistic strategies of restraint are giving hearer theoption not to do the act and minimizing threat. Data analysisshows the language, which group members speak, has a crucialrelation with politeness strategies selected by them. Besides,the interlocutors' English ability and proficiencygreatly influence the choice of politeness strategies.
