语境在科技英语文本语义确定及翻译中的作用探析

The role of context in determining semantic meaning and translation of EST texts

翻译的进行以对源语语义的正确理解为基础和前提,而语义的理解又离不开对语境的分析。结合科技英语的特殊性,文章将语境分为语言语境和非语言语境。在语境分析确定语义之后,对源语内容进行译语表达时,还要继续联系语境深入分析,考虑译文用词的感情色彩、语气的强弱、语体的正式程度等,得出高质量的译文。通过实例分析,文章试图探讨语境在科技英语语义的确定及翻译中起到的重要作用。

The correct understanding of the semantic meaning of the source text is the premise of translation,while the meaning of the source text is greatly influenced and determined by context. Given the special features of English for Science and Technology（EST） texts,this paper classifies context into linguistic context and non-linguistic context. After the meaning is determined through context analysis, expressing in the target text is followed,during which process attention should be paid to such factors as emotion, tone and style in the context so as to get qualified translation. By analyzing some examples in translation practice,this paper tries to investigate the importance of context in determining semantic meanings and translation of EST texts.
