摘要 Harold Pinter, a British poet and playwright, is recognizable for the "Pinteresque" style and "the comedy of menace". His one-act play The Dumb Waiter is famous for its meaningless dialogue, employment of silence and pause, and ridiculous plots. Many criticism stereotyped the two main characters as helpless and hopeless marionettes. However, in the detailed analysis of the play,Gus is shaped as a relatively positive figure who are active in seeking the truth, meaning and value in the absurd world.
