Whether as an object or subject of narration, narratives of suffering in the 1980 s are profoundly humanitarian.Such a quality is obviously inherited from the literary tradition of the May 4 thpeople, a result of the influence by the Western humanitarian literary spirit. In this sense, narratives of suffering are naturally imbued with a spirit of enlightenment. Writing about suffering is an expression of sympathy with and pity on people's physical and spiritual suffering and also an expectation for and identification with social justice, with the hidden subtext that the highest yardstick in this world is human survival and happiness. As such, writings of suffering have, in turn, pushed forward the ideological trend of enlightenment, discovered among the 1980 s people.
