An Interpretation of the Metaphors in Eating Chinese Food Naked

华裔美国女作家伍美琴在《裸体吃中餐》中刻画的华裔主人公罗碧·李极其热衷裸体吃中餐。本文从"食"与"色"的诱惑及困惑、白人男性的东方主义幻想、华裔女性的文化殖民内化这3个角度着手,解读"食"与"色"作为族裔、性别与文化的符码,透视"食"与"色"的隐喻是如何反映西方文化殖民与霸权主义对华裔美国群体的东方化与刻板化,揭示殖民主义内化的倾向及其潜在危害,进而解构少数族裔在美国主流社会中的自我殖民化的危害。

Ruby Lee, a character of Chinese origin, in Eating Chinese Food Naked, by Mei Ng, a Chinese-American woman writer, takes a great interest in eating Chinese food naked. Based on the perspectives of seduction and puzzlement by food and sex, the Orientalist fantasy of the white males and the internal cultural colonization of the Chinese females, this article is an attempt to interpret food and sex as signs of ethnicity, gender and culture, to view the metaphors of food and sex as reflective of the Orientalisation and stereotyping of Chinese-American communities by cultural colonization and hegemony in the West,and to expose the tendency towards internalized colonialism and its potential harm in an attempt to deconstruct the damage on the self-colonization of the ethnic minority people in mainstream American society.
